5 Easy Ways to Organize Your Kitchen

Yes, you’ve been meaning to get to it, you are a busy person and just haven’t gotten around to organizing your kitchen. Yes, we sympathize. LOL! Listen, organizing your kitchen might sound like climbing Everest but it does not have to be a huge, time consuming deal. If you plan right, this should be walk in the park. And as your neighborhood, friendly handyman, we thought this post might be a good start. Shall we get on with it, then?

Cutlery

This one’s a no brainer but we have got two words for you- Cutlery Trays. Use them for your cutlery, wooden spoons, metal ladles and serving spoons. Give each a compartment so that they don’t get mixed up and the bigger spoons end up, well, spooning the little spoons (see what we did there?!)

Most cutlery trays come in various sizes and will fit right into drawers so that you no longer have a mess of spoons and forks and steak knives that will always jab you when you’re looking for something at the back of the drawer. Here are some good options on Amazon.

Pots & Pans

If you’ve got a kitchen island, use the hanging space above it to install a rack and hang your pots and pans for easy access and to clear up some space in your kitchen cabinet shelves. There are multiple options available online and if installing one seems like too much work, give us a call at (626) 744-0402 and we’ll be more than happy to help you out.

Stemmed Glasses and Mugs

Ever looked at the space under your wall cabinets and thought to yourself that you could do more with the area? How about hanging your wine and other long-stemmed glasses there like those fancy bars? Get yourself a wine glass rack and be smart about using that empty space! Walmart has a few options to consider.

Alternatively, if you are anything like us at Handyman Connection, you might also have a huge collection of mugs (even though you probably use the same mug every day for your morning coffee!). Use hooks or even a nail-free, under shelf mug holder rack like this economical one here.

Kitchen Cupboards

You know that dark cupboard/void that you push all your non-essential gadgets into and promptly forget about their existence? Yes, everyone has that one cupboard in their kitchen! Put that cupboard and for that matter any other kitchen cabinet to efficient use by getting pull out baskets or shelves installed. Last we checked, there were 197 options available on the Home Depot website for you to choose from.

Another good option to consider is an expandable shelf in your cabinet. If you use a shelf to only store plates or bowls, the space above is being under-utilized. Be a smart cookie and get yourself a rack that can sit on your shelf and use the vertical space, something like these choices here.

Knives, Scissors and Sharp, Pointy Objects

Ever been rummaging through a drawer, looking for something, only to get stabbed by a knife or some other sharp thing? That’s an accident waiting to happen, to be honest! How about installing a magnetic strip that will save space and keep you safe from unintentional cuts and jabs? Yes, there are knife blocks that are stylish and handy, but we’re all about maximizing your available space in this article! Besides, unless you’re diligent about frequently cleaning it, a knife block may end up being a breeding ground for all sorts of bacteria.

Well, there you have it. 5 easy ways to organize your kitchen and keep it tidy! If you need help with any of these ways or with your kitchen remodeling needs, the experts at Handyman Connection are only one call away at (626) 744-0402. We service Pasadena and West side of Los Angeles.
